When you’re planning a quick weekend escape, or a weeklong family reunion, you’ll want to go to a spot with endless possibilities. A place where you never get bored, each day filled to the brim with activities, both outdoor and indoor.

Look no further than Murfreesboro, TN, the perfect area to get lost in the adventure. Whether you’re looking to head outdoors, relax inside, or enjoy family-friendly activities, we’ve got you covered. Top it all off with a stay at
Carriage Lane Inn, a cozy inn that feels like home.

Here are some of the best things to do in Murfreesboro.

Get Your Daily Dose of Vitamin D

We all need sunshine in our lives, and with the Vitamin D benefits, it’s only right that we start our Murfreesboro adventure outside. There are plenty of walking paths, parks, and waterways that make it easy to enjoy the area. The Stones River Greenway is well-known for walking, biking, or relaxing by the peaceful river. It connects to several parks, such as Old Fort Park, a large space with tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, and quick access to historic sites like Fortress Rosecrans.

Barfield Crescent Park is a little more rugged, with hiking trails that weave in and out of a wooded area. It’s also got a wilderness station with nature programs and exhibits for all ages. Looking for a place to cool off? Kayak, paddleboard, or dip your toes in the Walter Hill Dam. The dam is also a great spot to go fishing, so bring your poles!

Relaxing Indoors

If the weather is not up to your liking, or you just want to stay inside, Murfreesboro’s got plenty to do. The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring is a children’s (and young at heart) museum, with tons of science exhibits, play zones, and even a waterworks section. With a ton of programs designed for kids’ engagement, it’s a great place to explore as a family.

For more action, Urban Air Adventure Park has trampolines, zip lines, climbing walls, and obstacle courses. What more could you ask for? It’s a great stop to get all the energy and wiggles out, as well as test your abilities. On the opposite end, the Center for the Arts offers a relaxing venue, regularly hosting plays, musicals, and local performances for you to watch.

Fun With the Little Ones

To keep the fun going, you must visit Cannonsburgh Village, a recreated 1800s town complete with a schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, and even a gristmill. It offers a self-guided walking tour, making it an easy stop to explore some history with your loved ones.

Another top spot is Lucky Ladd Farms, about 25-minutes from downtown. Open from March through October, this farm has a petting zoo, pony rides, corn mazes, and so much more. It’s ideal for a quick half-day trip, with a countryside feel that's hard to beat. If you’re into dinosaurs and fossils, the Earth Experience - Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History has real fossils to explore, packed with plenty of interesting finds for your family.

Adventures on a Budget

It’s easier than you think to enjoy a trip to Murfreesboro without spending a dime. Many of the outdoor trails and parks that we mentioned are free. Stones River National Battlefield is an example, open year-round, providing insights into the Civil War with its monuments. Cannonsburgh Village is also a free stop, plus it is a great place to visit with kids (see above). Murfreesboro has invested in public art, so you’ll find a lot of colorful murals throughout downtown to explore.

Who doesn’t love a good farmer’s market? The Saturday market, from May through October, has local produce, handmade goods, and live music. It’s a great place to explore, especially if you’re not wanting to spend any money.
